Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her the position of curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She together with her family later made the move to the historic landmark. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduated, she is a major in vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the school's chorus as a contralto, before joining the adult choir only a couple of years further on. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was not extensive at first "I was doing solos in the church, and I was asked to go on the gospel label at age was eleven but I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition for children in major cities. In the end, I got the opportunity to perform Accept the Grace of God on Showtime Apollo. The audience was extremely supportive." She performed alongside Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at thirteen. Sullivan was initially signed to Jive Records at the age 15. When she was 15 she signed with Jive Records. She recorded an whole album at Jive Records, however the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott, who produced several tracks for her debut project, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
