In America, the early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the child prodigy category. For a child with Irish roots, surrounded as her by talented parents and family members was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen entered this loving sanctuary in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers" a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen loved playing rough sporting games in her youth and excelled in sports. Additionally, she had a gift to act. It was evident by her winning pretty much every Feis awards for drama and performances in the theater that her nation offered. At age 14she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study the art of opera and classical theatre.
